Forbes 2021 Under 30 Summit
In April, our founder and co-CEO Martin was selected for the Forbes 30 Under 30 list. Thus, he has achieved one of his greatest goals in life.
Now it was time to celebrate that great honor and a “Decade of Disruption” together with all the other honored leaders. Martin told us about the event and what his next big goals are.
“Of course, the Summit was a really impressive event. It is incredible to have seen and met so many other talented people. For me it is a real enrichment to be able to profit from their experience and know-how. Especially by listening to the keynotes given by true leaders, I learned a lot — also about myself as an entrepreneur.
And at the same time, I realized once more what a huge honor it is to have been selected among the world changing leaders of tomorrow. And not only that: I am being provided with an amazing network where you can support and help each other in the future.”
You always say that being listed as one of Forbes’ 30 Under 30 was one of your biggest life goals. Why is that?
“As a founder, you always need motivators — goals to work towards, but also mentors and role models that keep you inspired. Forbes offers all of that.
For the past ten years, this list has recognized the most kick-ass young people in the world. So many of my role models were among them. Since then, I’ve also wanted to be one of those role models at some point.
When you start up so young, hardly anyone seems to take you seriously, especially in the conservative energy sector, which is where I operate with kraftwerk (Martin’s other company). Moreover, I don’t have a degree, which is a further barrier. That’s why this listing was an important confirmation that I’m on the right track.
On top, being included in the Forbes 30 Under 30 also offers global recognition, of course. Since I operate globally with both of my companies, this is definitely a good entry point and a further validation.”
Now that you have achieved this goal in life — what’s next?
“I want to be a role model myself, for the young people who are now standing in the same place as I was ten years ago. I’ve been through some ups and downs with kraftwerk in the last few years. I would like to share the experience I have gained and the things that have made me stronger with future founders.”
What do you take away from this for SQIN?
“I was able to gain experience with a bootstrapped company. I learned how important the right timing is, the right product-market fit, the right mentors, the right network and also the right team. All of that is important for any company.
In addition, I have gained true perseverance from my experience over the last ten years and have learned to keep getting back up — come what may.”
